Arenstein and Katz imprisoned for cannabis crimes

Howard Arenstein and his wife, Orly Katz, have both been arrested for possessing and producing weed. Both Katz and Arenstein work for news producers. In D.C., Arenstein works as the head of CBS News Radio. Orly Katz is the Washington D.C. reporter for a newspaper in Israel. Vice squad police officers imprisoned both individuals when they found packaged cannabis in their home.

Violations against Arenstein

A search warrant was executed on the home of Orly Katz and Arenstein, based on a tip from neighbors. Prosecutors have charged Howard Arenstein and Orly Katz with possession of cannabis and intent to distribute the marijuana discovered in their home. Both of the reporters were released on their own recognizance. The crimes charged don’t require the couple charged to stay in jail before trial. Punishments for the crimes vary greatly. Arenstein could face as little as a few fines or as much as several years in jail.

Howard Arenstein’s house had prepared cannabis

The Saturday morning raid at Howard Arenstein’s home was carried out by vice police after neighbors complained about the growing weed. On that Saturday morning, 11 fully mature marijuana plants were found within the couple’s backyard. While executing the search warrant, police also found 12 ounces of weed, prepared in six two-ounce bags. The intent to distribute charge is based on the small packages of controlled substances discovered.

Employers may investigate Arenstein

Despite numerous requests, CBS News Radio has made no official statement about the arrest of their Washington D.C. bureau chief. Reports from the Brand new York Post say that an internal investigation to the matter is being launched, nevertheless. The internal politics of both news organizations is such that they may not be fired for their infraction. Weed use, production, or sale in the District of Columbia isn’t defensible under any law presently on the books.
