A lot of automotive recalls have happened this year. Perhaps one of the most high profile of automotive recalls so far this year was the infamous Toyota recall involving a defective accelerator pedal. At least consistency is shown with one more Toyota recall coming. Less vehicles are being recalled now. That means less individuals could be affected by it. Only a couple of model years on two different cars offered by the automaker have the defect in question. However, as Toyota is trying to recover from the earlier recall and fallout, this can be a setback.
An additional Toyota recall
Recalls come from Toyota. They happen often. Toyota recalls are fairly regular right about now. There has also been a new recall just announced to the public. The problem being tackled by this Toyota recall is with the engines in more than 1.3 million cars. The engine control module needs fixing. The engine problem makes it so the motor won’t start with a stall when driving. Also, says CNN, shifting could be affected as well. A small number of accidents may have resulted from this problem.
More than 1 million cars to be fixed
The models in question are the Toyota Corolla and the Toyota Matrix. From 2005 to 2008 you will find difficulties. The defect in the 1ZZ-FE engine is within the circuit board within the Engine Control Module, where the circuit board can crack. The engine might shut off while driving or affect the shifting. It could be hard to start the engine as well. The U.S. has 1.13 vehicles being affected by this. In Canada, the vehicles affected total only 200,000. According to the Los Angeles Times, this will bring the number of cars Toyota has recalled this year to about 10 million. There is an investigation being run. This is coming from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Toyota does poorly
Toyota has had market share in U.S. auto sales. This has been for the last few years. This might be really bad for Toyota. This could possibly be the one thing stopping all the progress. Those customers would go to General Motors, Ford and Chrysler if it were possible.
